Hill Trolls
Trolls are rather large and nasty creatures and they made a few appearances in LOTR as well as The Hobbit. Three of the trolls that were in The Hobbit also appeared in LOTR as they had been turned to stone and the party happens upon them while in travel from Bree to Rivendell. There was also the very brief appearance in the Mines of Moria when the party is first attacked, and then later as the party tries to make their escape. They also appear as a great company of trolls from Gorgoroth ready for battle.
The troll figure was designed to be a scale twelve feet (making the figure twelve inches tall) and had a variety of accessories planned including buckler, heavy hammer, axe weapon, treasure chest, bag of gold, gold scepter, engraved gold sword, and a bird's nest.
The figure was designed with articulation as follows: twisting wrists, bending elbows and knees, ball-jointed shoulders, twisting waist, neck and thighs.

Accessories that were fully sculpted were two bags of gold (one open and one closed), large war hammer, chest, a double-headed axe, an elf head for a necklace, a human sword and mace, shield, bird's nest, short hammer, short shield and a collection of various skulls.
he troll figure was essentially complete and ready for production, but it was cancelled due to the larger cost since it would have been a deluxe figure and much larger than any others in the line. The troll was designed by Todd Lockwood and the sculpture by Daniel Horne.
There are a few drawings of the initial concept art that are shown on this page. The final control art is shown in a gallery linked to the thumbnail on the left below. Images of the final sculpted piece are found by clicking the thumbnail below on the right.
