Year of release: 1993
Figure Number: 4925
Accessories: Three (3) harpoons and launching gun
Action Feature: Harpoon Shooting Gun
Comments: This figure featured some unusual sculpting. and limited articulation (no elbow joints). The oddest feature to this figure is the sculpting at the hips. There is a significant gap between the torso and the leg joints. A similar, though less distinct gap can be seen in the sculpting of the Cyclops I figure. Ahab accurately represented the character's peg leg, but the overall presentation of the figure was disappointing.
By far, this was the lowest selling figure in this assortment. Ahab figures can still be found in clearance aisles in many parts of the country a full three years after the original release of this figure.
Another interesting note, this was the first figure from any of the X-figures lines to feature a spring loaded missile firing accessory or mechanism. This was to become an extremely common mechanism for later series of figures. The only earlier figure with missile accessories was the Archangel I figure. With that figure, missiles were launched with the finger. No spring was involved.
Since the inception of these types of missile firing mechanisms, there have been urban legends regarding alleged mishaps and even deaths resulting from these missiles (these stories usually involve a child poking out an eye or choking on the missile). These stories are often accompanied by stories of recalled figures and alleged rarity. To set the record straight, no figure from the X-figures lines has ever been recalled for this or any other reason.
