Charlie’s Angels
By Strange Mark Studios
New from Strange Mark Studios, infamous for their obscure
American tv toy lines, comes the brand new all-encompassing line of action
figures based on the popular 70’s tv show and recent hit movies. |
The plan for the line is to produce every Angel in 6” scale
over the next year, with a variety of cool accessories, building up your very
own massive Townsend Agency. Predicting that the movie figures will be the best
sellers of the bunch, SMS has decided to lead the line with the three girls from
the first movie, Dylan, Natalie and Alex, as played by Drew Barrymore, Cameron
Diaz and Lucy Liu. The decision was made to base these figures all on the first
film, “that way,” a representative told us, “if sales turn out good, we can run
with a ‘Full Throttle’ line later in the year, with the girls in outfits from
the second film, and maybe some of the supporting cast.” However, even though
the Angels themselves will be based on their first movie outing, rounding out
this first assortment will be Demi Moore as the fallen angel Madison Lee, from
Full Throttle. “Our mission statement is to produce every Angel we’ve met,” we
were informed, “that includes the evil ones!” Does this mission-statement run as
far as to include the Olsen twins from their cameo as future Angels? “Umm, no.
But we might run to ‘Agent Pink’ or the Destiny’s Child girls somewhere down the
road if we can work out licences!” |
Don’t you really hate it when there’s a special accessory
you want, but it only comes with the one figure you can never find? Well, SMS
have taken that into account, and every figure will come with their very own
speaker-box to provide that much needed link to Charlie! |
Following on from the movie line, Strange Mark Studios take
Charlie’s Angels back to its routes, with two waves based on the classic TV
show. The first wave will include Cheryl Ladd as Kris Munroe, Kate Jackson as
Sabrina Duncan, and StrangeMark’s personal favourite, Jaclyn Smith as longest
surviving Angel, the wonderful Kelly Garrett (Not pictured). StrangeMark
himself told us about the decision to include Kris in the first wave, rather
than her sister Jill. “I always feel,” he said, “that Cheryl Ladd gets a sore
deal, and Farrah Fawcett is remembered as the great Angel. Now there’s nothing
wrong with Farrah, but she was only in one season, while Cheryl was there
until the end. We felt that she deserved a spot in the first wave of TV
figures.” This is also the longest surviving threesome, sticking out two
seasons together before Kate Jackson’s departure. Rounding out this second
wave of figures is the Angels’ loyal friend Bosley, played by David Doyle. |
Hot on the heels of these figures will be a line that SMS
is referring to as “One Season Wonders.” As you’ve probably worked out, this
line consists of those Angels that only made one season each, Farrah Fawcett
as Jill Munroe, Shelly Hack as the unpopular-Angel Tiffany Wells, and the
show’s final newbie, Tanya Roberts as Julie Rogers (Not pictured). SMS are
slightly concerned that this line will not sell as well as the others, partly
leading to the decision to hold Farrah back into this wave rather than with
the ‘popular Angels’. “Though we really did mean what we said about wanting
Kris in the first wave” re-affirms StrangeMark. Due to this, we won’t be
seeing as many of these figures on the shelves as the earlier waves, so if you
seem them, snap them up fast!
|
The other incentive to pick up this wave is the special
mail-away exclusive. Collecting proof-of-purchases from every figure (yes, ALL
of them, all three waves!) and correctly answering a series of trivia
questions on the new ‘SMS: Charlie’s Angels’ website, gives you the
opportunity for a very special Charlie figure!! No kidding! Charles Townsend
himself! We’re able to bring you a sneaky peak there, but what does he look
like? We don’t know! You’ll have to find out for yourself! Only 1,976 Charlie
figures will be produced, and there’s no way he’ll be showing up in the toy
stores with the others.
|
So is that it for the Charlie’s Angels line? Absolutely
not! SMS have plans to keep the lines going as long as possibly, with endless
potential for new versions of the Angels. The movies alone feature a huge
amount of different costumes and hair styles, then there’s the five seasons of
the TV show to tap into, as well as the Charlie’s Angels animated web-series.
SMS are also in negotiations with Spanish distributors regarding the
possibility of producing figures from the 1999 Spanish incarnation “Angeles.”
StrangeMark also guarantees one special figures. “Full Throttle Kelly Garrett.
She’s an absolute essential. Definitely the best scene in the whole film.”
|
Finally, this line comes hot on the heels of the rumours
that ABC and Sony are developing a brand new Charlie’s Angels television
series!! If the show makes it to the screen, you can guarantee SMS will be
back with a brand new line of figures! |
