Roger: What self respecting BPRD fan would customise their own 5" BPRD figures when Mezco is releasing a series of far superiorlarger figures in the style of Mike Mignola? Well, the reason is I love Ghost Rider, and I want everything I customise to be in the same scale and style as the short lived 5" Ghost Rider series from the 90s! So there ya go. I threw Roger together initially, sculpting his, ahem, crotch ring into place and severely hampering his ability to sit down or play sports. When I revisited him, I scraped all the putty off and replaced it with the ring from a picture frame. I was pretty pleased with how that worked out! The torso and legs are from a Marvel Gold Captain Marvel figure. The head is from a JLA Martian Manhunter, and the arms are from a Hercules figure.
The boots and vest come from a cheap military figure. I loved how he turned out, but then, the doubts set in. He's a little taller than the Hellboy figure I made which doesn't seem right. Hellboy's gotta be remade I guess. Also, where the boots were added one leg turned out longer than the other, so he stands crooked! Never mind I guess.
Liz Sherman: Well, there's a lesson here. Check pictures for reference! Liz does wear an outfit like this, with the blouse untucked, but not often. Probably just the once in fact. I was hoping to finish an alternate Liz with the beret and more practical field gear, but she and Kate Corrigan will have to wait until the next batch. Liz was made from the torso of a Marvel Hall of Fame Viper, the legs of an X men Deathbird and the head, jacket and arms from a White Queen figure. I'm not keen on those arms, I've used them before and they're pretty weird. They make the whole figure look a little crooked. The flames are from a Dormammu figure, and I think they help stop that funny gesture looking too peculiar.
Frog Monster: If you think the frog monster looks like I threw him together this morning just to round out the line and give them a villain, then you are quite perceptive. Well maybe not that perceptive, it is a simple figure. However, I had always planned my Frog Monsters to be simple so they were easier to mass-produce. Plague of Frogs anyone? My original plan had been to have a crossover line, with the BPRD taking on Marvel's Nightstalkers - hence the Drake figure in the Ghost Rider line. That didn't pan out however so there was no villain. A fan toy line with no villain? What's the point of that! Anyhoo, if you hadn't guessed this guy was made from a Venom figure with the toes from a couple of Independence Day aliens. He recently had an accident attacking the helicopter, which resulting in him losing all the toes on one foot. Such a tragedy.
Johann Kraus: Not sure I'm that keen on how this guy turned out. His head and torso used to belong to a Spiderman figure, who was more transparent than most. The arms and legs are from a Spiderman Chameleon figure and the vest and pouches come from a cheap military figure. He leans funny, which may be okay for a talking bag, and the spot where I had to remove Spidey's eyes from the face doesn't really stand up to close scrutiny. Guess he'll do. The ectoplasm is an accessory from a Venom Planet of the Symbiotes figure.
BPRD Agent: Just put him together to be the pilot. A Spider Power Peter Parker figure with a Ghost Rider Dan Ketch head and hands. Squeeze his legs together, and he'll smack stuff with his little torch! "Take that, denizens of eeevArrrrrrrrrrrghll!"
Transport Helicopter: This was a tedious project. Dull dull dull. Plus, I didn't really think it through! What the Hell was I doing? I remember I was watching Doctor Who one time, the rest is a bit of a blur. This was inspired by the Irrepressible Dark Horse, who has a great site of mostly G I Joe type stuff and some nice custom vehicles, including a BPRD chopper. So, I bought a Chap Mei safari helicopter from my local Early Learning Centre. Incidentally, I think the rotors are little too flimsy for very young children. Anyway, I removed the cockpit and tried to build a new one, which does the job I think. It uses a TMNT vial of mutagen Pogo Copter seat, and a couple of bits from a Spiderman Train Battle playset. The fire extinguisher, and a little panel that you can't see in the blurry picture (Sorrrrreeee.) were wrestling accessories. The steering Column was made from a TMNT Baxter Stockman arm and some handles from another Chap Mei vehicle. The benches are more
wrestling accessories. I'm quite happy with it I guess, I think it'll do. Obviously it's way out of scale, especially for a Chinook and people can't stand up inside it. However, it makes noises and has a winch! I can see it being a project I keep coming back to.
