Recipes
The Question: Here's my version thrown into the ring of recipes on the web - I started with a Mattel Two-Face body, since it seems to be closest in design and scale. The legs were cut and repositioned slightly to make the stance a little narrower, as well as to shorten them slightly. The arms were cut away just below the shoulder joint and replaced with those of a Wild Card Joker. I originally used a Superman head, but it seemed a
little too broad. I finally decided on using a Kyle Rayner head, since it's a little narrower and seems a better fit. Some sculpting was done to smooth
out seams and add a little mass to the back of the head. The hat came
from
a Mattel Scarface, though it had to be heavily reshaped. The coat was
made
from vinyl with the collar cut from a Bruce Wayne trench coat. I'm
pretty
satisfied with the way it turned out-seems fairly on-model.
Captain Atom: Standard recipe - Waverider with sculpted hair.
Blue Beetle: Arkis Chummuck body with Flash head, Mirror Master holster,
and
sculpted goggles and belt buckle.
Peacemaker: A Lex Luthor body with an Orion head, with sculpting done
for
the helmet, gloves and shoulder pads. The cuffs on the sleeves are
vinyl,
the symbol is two pieces of cut plastic, and the gun from the Luthor
harness
was glued to the belt. I'm not 100% satisfied with the helmet, but I
think
that's probably just due to the strange design of it.
Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt: An Atom with sculpted hair and boot cuffs and belt made from vinyl.
Killjoy: I really didn't want to make a custom of Judomaster, who was
acquired by DC from Charlton Comics along with all these other
characters.
The costume design never appealed to me, and frankly, isn't everyone in
comics a master of judo? Then I remembered Steve Ditko's back-up
feature
"Killjoy," from Charlton's "E-Man" comic book. I really liked the
striking
simplicity of the costume design and figured Killjoy would look great in
the
JLU line. He was made from a Copperhead with the tail removed and the
head
replaced with that of an Amazo figure.
Nightshade: I debated making the version that Bruce Timm designed way
back
when he first made a Justice League proposal (with her purple costume
from
the "Suicide Squad" comics), but I decided to go with the outfit
Nightshade
wears in the current "Shadowpact" series. The base is a Hawkgirl with
sculpted skirt, sleeves, gloves, boots and hair. The belt is made from
vinyl, as is the mask. The legs had to be superglued in place, but I
figure
sacrificing the articulation is worth it for a decent sculpt.
