Justice League

My biggest personal issue with my own customs is that I've done way too many different styles and haven't settled into a groove of one particular style that I've enjoyed. Partly inspired by the Hawkgirl Challenge of a previous CustomCon, I gave myself some rules of my own: make as many Ed McG figures as I can before the next CustomCon. I see it as a visual jazz: variations on a single theme. I know many dislike the McG style, but I personally love the consistency and the unity. As you'll see in this season's additions, I'm a big Super Powers fan; what I liked so much about that series, I tried to capture here: variety with uniformity.

For this wave of figures, I wanted to tweak some of the existing McG figures -- Superman needed a bigger logo and had to open his eyes, Diana ditched the bunny-ear hairdo, Flash's head bolts were a little too big for my tastes -- and I wanted to try my hand at a metallic airbrush (like Wally is almost always colored, it seems), and Martian Mahunter was restored to his original, silver-age palette. Kyle is my favorite GL, I did Blue Beetle to flesh out the line (and I wanted to paint with a custom-mixed metallic light blue), and Blue Devil isn't exactly a Leaguer, I made him because I needed ideas for all my spare Martian Mahunter bodies lying around... although I know little about the character, he makes for a nice, dynamic contrast on the shelf.
