The Hasbro Marvel Brand Team is proud to present:
Due to the enormous success of the Marvel Legends 2-Pack program, currently exclusive to Toys 'R Us, Hasbro has decided to expand the 2010 Marvel Legend offerings by approximately 33%. For the math-challenged out there, that's two additional figures! The Marvel Legends Deadly Deities 2-Pack comes with Hercules, the Lion of Olympus, and Loki, the Norse God of Mischief!
We very nearly called this two-pack "The Gods Must Be Crazy," and that name would have worked on so many levels. First, the Marvel Legends line has already released figures of both of these characters, and it would be crazy to release updates when those two figures were so beloved. Second, we may be crazy, but retailers don't like 6-inch figures, and we know that collectors are tired of Legends. And third, both characters are gods! Crazy, huh?
Marvel Legends Hercules
Hercules is the son of Zeus, king of the gods of Olympus, and Alcmena, a mortal woman who lived about three thousand years ago. (Technically, this makes him a demi-god, but we still think the name of this 2-pack fits.) Hercules was born with the potential for extraordinary strength, which he first displayed before he was even one year old by strangling two serpents which attacked him. As an adult, Hercules is best known for his celebrated Twelve Labors, which were performed in part to prove his worthiness for immortality to Zeus.
In figure form, Hercules stands tall enough to go toe to toe with his half-brother Ares, who is a Build-A-Figure. In other words, you're getting a BAF-sized figure for the cost of two Marvel Legends figures in 2004, back when many single-carded figures were BAF-sized by today's standard. If that's confusing, just know he has 28 points of articulation and two fists.
Marvel Legends Loki
Loki is the son of Laufey, the king of the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, who hid him away because of his runt-like size. When Odin defeated Laufey in battle, he adopted Loki and raised him as his own son. Loki has long resented his brother Thor, who has always been a favorite of Odin and the Asgardians for his nobility of spirit. He seeks to destroy Thor and reduce Asgard to rubble, preferring to use his cunning and magic over his physical might.
In figure form, Loki stands tall enough to look the Marvel Select Thor right in his baby blues. That means you'll be getting a Marvel Select-sized figure for the price of a Marvel Select figure three years ago. Yeah, never mind - oil prices have gone up and so has the labor cost in China. Loki has 34 points of articulation and a sword, because swords are more appealing to kids than staffs (staves?)
