Fox Kids Europe Expands Licensing Activities For Key Property Totally Spies! Award-winning animated series has achieved significant ratings successes across Europe - New licensing activities include dedicated magazines, action toys and a wide range of apparel and fashion accessories.
June 2, 2003 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands and London, UK - Fox Kids Europe (FKE), the leading pan-European integrated children's entertainment company, today announced an expansion in licensing activities across Europe for key property Totally Spies!. FKE's consumer products division represents the merchandising rights to the series in all territories in Western Europe, (excluding Germany, Austria and Switzerland), Poland and Hungary.
The animated series, featuring the comic adventures of a group of schoolgirl super-spies, has achieved significant ratings successes in The Netherlands, Scandinavia, France and Spain and has been sold to 50 countries worldwide. It is currently one of the top-rating programmes airing on the UK channel and the second series will be receiving its UK-TV premiere on July 26, 2003.
The series has won several awards including the Bronze World Medal, Children's Programmes at the 44th International New York Film Festival and Kidscreen's first Gemmies Award 2002 in the girls' category. Marathon, the French-based company who produce the series, has announced a third season of 26 episodes, bringing the total number of episodes available to 78.
Dedicated Totally Spies! comic magazines have recently launched in the UK by Panini (circ.100,000), in Italy by Edizioni Cioe (circ.100,000) and in the Netherlands by Juniorpress (circ.15,000). They join existing dedicated publications in other territories including France through Diamond Publishing. In addition to the dedicated magazine launched in April by Panini in the UK, the series features regularly in FKE's own monthly Wickid magazine (circulation 60,000).
There is a growing number of licensees for the property across Europe including; Bridge Entertainment (home video) and Marissa (bed linen) in the Netherlands; Lansay (toys) in France; Rocco Giocattoli (action dolls) in Italy; A/S Mega Trading Aarhus (action dolls & accessories), Mega Merchandising (home video) and Blues Filobranca (apparel) in Scandinavia.
Promotions staged to date include; a Carrefour promotion involving 222 outlets nationwide and a successful Magic Box Kids Meal promotion with Quick during December 2002 in France; a joint promotion with La Bella Easo in Spain from December 2002-March 2003 which involved the distribution of 4 million competition packs; a promotion with KFC during October 2002 and a Woolworths promotion in which Totally Spies! featured in 250,000 'Lucky Bags' through stores nationwide in the UK.
Further Totally Spies! promotions and retail activity are planned for 2003, including; retail activity with a major toy distributor in France during June and the launch of the first Totally Spies! video in the UK in September. The property is supported by a dedicated website (www.totallyspies.com) and by special Fox Kids microsites across Europe.

Programme Distribution
FKE owns one of the largest libraries of children's programming in Europe. Programming from its library is distributed to more than 120 different terrestrial, cable and satellite channels in over 50 markets across Europe and the Middle East. This library includes major global programming franchises such as Power Rangers, Spiderman, X-Men, Inspector Gadget and Goosebumps. The rights for most of the titles in the FKE library cover all markets in Europe and the Middle East and include many forms of media. The FKE library is serviced by Buena Vista International Television.
Consumer Products
FKE's consumer product activities include toys, merchandising, retail projects and home videos sold in 30 European countries. FKE is present in the UK, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Russia, Spain and Benelux and also retains third party agents in other European markets. FKE's consumer product properties are sourced from the FKE library and include properties such as Power Rangers and Gadget and the Gadgetinis as well as third party agreements for properties such as Digimon, Medabots and Totally Spies.
