"Spider-Man was truly an event film for Columbia Pictures and Marvel Enterprises," said Al Ovadia of Spider-Man Merchandising LP. "With the sequel opening in theaters in July 2004 and the animated series coming soon, we're very excited to continue to grow the successful Spider-Man franchise globally."
"Spider-Man 2 will continue to drive Spider-Man home as a preeminent piece of intellectual property which sells extremely well at retail, in addition to touching the minds and hearts of fans of all ages," adds, Spider-Man Merchandising LP's Russ Brown.
Spider-Man 2 (tentative title) reunites director Sam Raimi with stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, and Alfred Molina, who is joining the cast as Spider-Man's new archenemy "Doc Ock." Spider-Man 2 is produced by Laura Ziskin and Marvel's Avi Arad.
In Spider-Man 2, Maguire returns as Peter Parker, who is juggling the delicate balance of his dual life as a college student and a superhuman crime fighter.
The new adventure escalates and Spider-Man's life becomes even more complicated when he confronts a new nemesis, the brilliant Otto Octavius, (Alfred Molina) who has been reincarnated as the maniacal and multi-tentacled "Doc Ock."
Spider-Man™: An all-new animated series produced by Sony Pictures Television soars onto MTV in the US in 2003. Diabolical villains and unsavory criminals are sure to keep Spider-Man busy indeed. However, the perils of college life will keep Peter Parker busy as well. Peter juggles his academics, his work at the Daily Bugle and an on-again, off-again relationship with Mary Jane Watson. And all the while, struggling to maintain his secret identity as Spider-Man.
The new series is being created in a unique computer-animated style, providing a new look for this classic hero. Combining state-of-the-art CG imaging processed in a classic feature animation style, the series will combine bright, lively abstract colors including a seemingly realistic neon-lit city.
