July 2008 - At the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con International, Diamond Select Toys held a panel about their Minimates toys - here are some of the highlights.
They announced two new licenses: the Punisher movie and the Spirit movie. In a wink-wink nudge-nudge moment, they also revealed that after the Spirit movie Minimates, there will be comic-based Spirit Minimates.
Diamond Select has relaunched the Art Asylum web site (you may recall that Diamond Select bought Art Asylum a time back), and fans with enough energy in their mouse fingers will find 'easter eggs' all over the new site. (If you look at the "theater" section, you may wish to steer younger viewers away from the "Minimates: Galactica" video.)
During the Q&A, someone asked about what paints were recommended for customizing Minimates, and Eddie Wires recommended Cel-Vinyl paints from Cartoon Colour. (Here's a link with contact info, as the main web site seems to be under renovation.)
We talked to DST in their booth about the upcoming Platoon Minimates set, to inquire about the release date, and the new date is September 2008.
