Brett Favre to Make Trading Card Debut as a New York Jet in Playoff Absolute Memorabilia
Donruss Halts Production to Include Favre in Next Trading Card Product
ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 8, 2008 -- Although it took the Packers more than 30-days to resolve the Brett Favre situation, it will not take Donruss, a leading manufacturer of sports trading cards, that long to get him on an NFL player trading card with his new team.
Donruss today announced that a Brett Favre New York Jets trading card will appear in the company's Playoff Absolute Memorabilia product, scheduled to reach retail stores the first week of September -- less than a month after Favre was dealt from the Packers to the NY Jets. The Favre card features a photo of the legendary signal-caller holding up his #4 NY Jets jersey at Thursday's press conference. Donruss dispatched a photographer to the event with the express purpose of creating this special card.
Since the production for Playoff Absolute Memorabilia was in its final stages, the Favre card will be exclusively available in retail boxes which are sold at such leading retailers as Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and other local supermarkets and drug stores. The boxes being shipped to hobby shops have already been packed out and are ready for distribution.
Not only will Favre replace third-year pro Kellen Clemens under center for the Jets, but he will also replace Clemens in the card set. Clemens' Playoff Absolute Memorabilia card (#101) is being replaced by the Favre card in the retail product. As a result, the Favre card in the retail packs will be produced in shorter quantity than every other common card in the set.
"Trading cards have always helped bring fans closer to the players and commemorate historic moments in sports," said Donruss Marketing /PR Director Scott Prusha. "This is one of the biggest football stories in the past decade and we are honored to bring this historic moment to collectors."
The Donruss Trading Card Company is a leading manufacturer of sports and entertainment trading cards, produced under the Donruss, Playoff, Leaf, Score and Americana brand names. As the second oldest trading card company, Donruss has established a well-deserved reputation in the realm of sports collectibles.
