March 2009 - Like most web sites, the Raving Toy Maniac sells banner ad space and also participates in affiliate ad programs. One of the more entertaining ad programs is Google's AdSense, if only because sometimes their context-based ads are pretty far off the mark.
Starting in April 2009, Google is implementing a new cookie system that will enable them to serve up ads based on user interests. In other words (and if we are understanding this correctly) they will remember what kinds of web sites you visit and serve up related ads, even on other web sites.
We do plan to keep participating in AdSense, so their ads will still appear on our site, but wanted to let you know where to go and what to do to opt-out of the new cookie system: this page on Google will tell you how to opt-out and this page on Kim Komando's web site also helps explain the new interest-based ads.
