LEGO® KidsFest Debuts In ConnecticutFirst of its kind interactive family show will be in Hartford
HARTFORD, Conn., November 12, 2009 -- Enfield, Connecticut-based LEGO Systems, Inc. and LIFE Marketing & Events announce LEGO® KidsFest, a three-day family show, presented by Big Y and Comcast, designed to bring the LEGO world to life through interactive, creative and educational activities. The show debuts November 20-22 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
Packed with activities, information and fun for the entire family, some of the LEGO KidsFest main attractions include: life-sized and miniature LEGO models, displays, and trainscapes built by LEGO fans, hobbyists and clubs, build, race and play tables and ramps, a LEGO video game gallery, live stage demonstrations and LEGO competitions. A local celebrity building contest, fashion shows and live entertainment are scheduled. Additionally, a wide variety of exhibitors will showcase exciting products and services.
Inspired LEGO enthusiasts who have built their own imaginative models have a chance to showcase them in the LEGO Builders - Open Talent Call zone. To register a model, families can visit www.LEGOKidsFest.com. In addition to scheduled activities, LEGO Club members will have access to a special area where they can privately preview upcoming LEGO sets and meet and watch LEGO Master Builders in action. Those who are not LEGO Club members aren't left out, as there is an opportunity to become a LEGO Club member (free of charge) right at the show.
Local schools can join and compete in the educational program, "LEGO Landmark". The 50 competing schools will showcase their LEGO models of historic Connecticut locations and landmarks from their towns in a designated area and three grand prizes will be awarded.
Adding a bit of holiday fun to the show in partnership with the Greater Hartford Arts Council, families are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots toy drive benefitting needy families in the local area. Children can visit and have their picture taken with Santa Claus, and also have the opportunity to get their photo with a life-sized LEGO Santa model. In the Christmas Charity Corner, children who donate $1 can build a LEGO ornament, then hang it on the Christmas trees at the show. Proceeds will be donated to Channel 3 Kids Camp and The Village for Families & Children in Hartford. The LEGO ornaments will be donated to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, the Department of Children and Families and to the Greater Hartford Arts Council's Festival of Light.
"There is no better way to usher in the holiday season for families than with the exciting activities we have scheduled at LEGO KidsFest," said Vince Rubino, events manager at LEGO Systems. "This first-time event will engage families in quality fun together and hopefully will provide a lasting memory."
"We feel extremely honored to be producing this event for LEGO Systems and know that everyone who attends is going to see or experience something they haven't before," said Michael Guinan, co-producer with LIFE Marketing & Events. "There are numerous fun and entertaining activities planned and the LEGO displays and activities alone are showstoppers!"
