The Netherlands Attempts Highest LEGO® Tower Record
- Limmen Will Try to Top Previous World Records by Moscow, Tokyo, Munich and Oslo
Limmen The Netherlands, May 5, 2010 On June 3, 2010 the people of Limmen, a small town in The Netherlands, will attempt to build the world's highest LEGO® tower. This world breaking record attempt will take 4 days and require more than one million LEGO® bricks. The current record, set in Oslo, boasts 30.22 metres.
On the morning of June 3rd the mayor of Castricum and the primary secretary of the Danish Embassy in The Netherlands, Sir Kim Rosner Pedersen, will open the event by placing the first brick of the tower. On June 6th, the last day of the event, a secret artist will close the event and hopefully celebrate the new World Record.
In the past other cities like Toronto, Hong Kong, Moscow, Sydney, Seoul, London, Tokyo, Munich and Oslo have broken records with the "Highest LEGO® Tower of the World."
"Now it's time for Limmen," said Andre Koopman, Chairman of the organisation behind the event. "We want to show the rest of the world that a small town like Limmen can do great things!" said Andre proudly to the media.
The organisation behind the event, Limmen Ludiek, has broken records more than once. In 2001 they built the biggest cocktail of the BeNeLux region containing over 2,001 litres of liquid. In 2005 they built the biggest Pyramid of the World with 63,365 beer crates. For the upcoming event students, children and other organisations will be involved to not only build this world breaking tower but also other famous buildings in the area where Limmen Ludiek is based. Everybody can visit the event between 10.00 and 17.00 CET; entrance is free.
