"What Will Your Phone Look Like?" Contest

MetroPCS and Mister Cartoon Contest Asks "What Will Your Phone Look Like?"

Young artists have a chance to design and win their own custom phone back from the legendary Gentle Giant Studios

May 2010 - DALLAS - MetroPCS Communications, Inc., in partnership with SA Studios Global and Gentle Giant Studios, has launched a contest for young artists to create their unique phone back designs for the new Motorola VE440 sanctioned by Mister Cartoon. The winning design will be brought to life by Gentle Giant Studios' first-class 3-D modeling team, creating a truly one-of-a-kind phone that expresses the contest winner's unique personal style.

Contestants may submit their designs on MetroPCS' Web site from May 10 through May 31, 2010 using the same template that renowned tattoo artist, car customizer and illustrator Mister Cartoon used to design his two unique Motorola VE440 phone backs. Designs may be rendered by hand or through the use of any computer graphics software. The template is available at www.Metropcs.com/cartooncontest.

Entries will be judged by Mister Cartoon, creative director of SA Studios Global, and Gentle Giant Studios founder Karl Meyer, a legend in toy and collectible modeling who has revolutionized the industry by pioneering the use of 3-D technology and digital visual effects.

"Through this contest, we're asking young people to dream big and express themselves in a creative and positive way. It's important for kids to know that developing their talents can help them accomplish their dreams," said Mister Cartoon, whose youth outreach programs encourage kids to pursue art as a positive outlet for creative expression.

"The creative process can be a unique learning experience for young people," added Meyer, founder of Gentle Giant Studios. "We're thrilled to take part in this contest and make a young designer's vision a reality."

This contest comes on the heels of Mister Cartoon's second limited edition phone release with MetroPCS. The new Motorola VE440 includes two custom phone backs designed by Mister Cartoon, a 1 GB memory card, two unreleased tracks from Snoop Dogg, and exclusive wallpapers and ringtones from both artists.

About Gentle Giant Studios

Burbank, CA-based Gentle Giant Studios was created by Karl Meyer over thirteen years ago. Beginning his journey as a practical model maker, he quickly realized that the digital age needed to be embraced and incorporated into the world of toy and collectable development. By adopting 3-D scanning and 3-D printing technology, he not only revolutionized the toy industry, he opened many doors of opportunity within the realm of digital visual effects.

Today, Gentle Giant has teams of concept artists, traditional and digital sculptors creating content for television, feature film and video games. As visual effects (VFX) studios continue to raise the bar in their efforts to impress audiences, 3-D scanning and modeling have become an integral part of their methodology. Productions such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Spiderman trilogy, all six Harry Potter features and over one hundred others have all sought out Gentle Giant Studios for its expertise in those arenas. As greater demands are placed upon VFX teams to deliver incredible visuals, the need for highly accurate data becomes that much more integral. Gentle Giant continually meets these challenges by developing and acquiring new technology on a regular basis.

Gentle Giant Studios works with Industrial Light & Magic, Rhythm & Hues, Sony Imageworks and many others.
