Mezco Donates The Green Hornet Prototype Action Figures to Museum of the Moving Image
New York, December 2010 - Standing in Museum of the Moving Image's core exhibition Behind the Screen, surrounded by Star Wars and Star Trek action figures, Mike Drake, Mezco's Director of Special Projects, "handed off" several priceless items from the new film The Green Hornet to Dr. Barbara Miller, the Museum's Collection Curator. The donated items include two prototype action figures of the new film's stars; the Green Hornet and Kato.
Mezco has produced 1/6th scale figures, and the original prototypes have been donated to the Museum. The towering 12-inch-scale figures feature film-accurate detail, numerous points of articulation, and real cloth components. The Green Hornet figure comes complete with his trademark "gas gun" and interchangeable hands. Kato comes with interchangeable hands and a film-accurate firearm.
Set to be released in theaters on Friday, January 14th 2011, the Green Hornet is considered by many action fans to be the must-see film of 2011. Starring Seth Rogan, Jay Chou, and Cameron Diaz, the new big-budget film tells the tale of Britt Reid the son of LA's most prominent and respected media magnate; he is perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene until his father mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father's more industrious and inventive employees, Kato, they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. In order to do this, they decide to become criminals themselves -- protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante, The Green Hornet. Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, The Black Beauty, an indestructible car, made of equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato's clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt's new secretary, Lenore Case. They begin hunting down the man who controls LA's gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky. But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all.
"The trailers for The Green Hornet look amazing," says Gordon McAlpin of Multiplexcomic.com, "Michel Gondry is an amazing director and I can't wait to see what he has crafted with the Green Hornet's rich mythos!"
