10 Lucky Kids Win Dream Jobs
|
OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 28 -- Ten children from across the United States have been selected to team up with John Harrison, Dreyer's Official Ice Cream Taster, on one of the sweetest jobs around. Dreyer's new "Official Kid Ice Cream Tasters," will visit Dreyer's Ice Cream Factory in the San Francisco Bay Area this December to demonstrate their tasting talents. In addition to a behind-the-scenes tour of the factory, each child will put their taste buds to the test on gallons of Dreyer's top-secret flavors during a marathon tasting session to ensure the very best, "kid approved" ice cream is always available in local freezer aisles. To sweeten the prize, each "Kid Taster" will also receive a year's supply of ice cream so his or her taste buds continue to get a workout throughout the year.
Dreyer's "Official Kid Ice Cream Tasters" include a cool line-up of talented kids:
- Janelle Beaudet (Sierra Vista, AZ)
- Shelby Cline (Tampa, FL)
- Katy Dimon (Post Falls, ID)
- William Dunckelman (Houma, LA)
- Jennifer Leventhal (Doylestown, PA)
- Brandon Lucas (New Kensington, PA)
- Bennet Motta (Salt Lake City, UT)
- Ami Mulligan (Clayton, CA)
- Haley Pardo (Taylorsville, UT)
- Sam Small (Hutchinson, KS)
These ten youngsters scooped up this sweet honor after being selected from 12,000 pint-sized ice cream fans. Their "job applications" demonstrated an abundance of enthusiasm, creativity, originality -- and a passion for ice cream. Bennet won over Dreyer's panel of judges by sending in the following plea, "13 year old guys would, in general, probably be the best taster group for Dreyer's Ice Cream . First, we are champion ice cream eaters and second, we care nothing about calories or fat, because at this age we can eat anything and only get taller, not fatter!" Ami reminded the judges that "the boss wouldn't really want to hire an ice cream taster who could only eat a gallon of ice cream a day and then groan that he or she had a stomach ache. No, the boss would want someone with speed to eat it and that would be me!" And Sam pointed out that "I can eat ice cream really fast, without even getting a headache ... so I would have my ice cream finished before it could drip onto the floor in a sticky puddle."
The new "Kid Tasters" will take a special trip to Dreyer's Ice Cream Factory where they will meet John Harrison, the man whose taste buds are insured for a cool million dollars. Best of all, they will be encouraged to eat more ice cream than a child could even imagine in his or her wildest dreams.
"You might think that getting paid to eat ice cream is too good to be true... but I'm here to tell you that this dream job really does exist," said Harrison. "I have tasted more than 180 million gallons of ice cream during my sweet career and I'm looking forward to teaching the tricks of the trade to ten of our nation's biggest ice cream fans."
Dreyer's launched its "Kid Ice Cream Taster Contest," earlier this year to locate ten kids who are simply wild about ice cream. Kids ages 6-14 were invited to submit an entry explaining, "Why I would be a great ice cream taster."
