HAZEL CREST, Ill., Dec. 14 -- Loquator Dinkins of the United States Marine Corp Reserve South Suburban Toys for Tots Foundation was heart-broken to think she could not give toys to all the 80,000 children on her Christmas list until Alan Hassenfeld, the Chairman and CEO of Hasbro, Inc., read her story.
Even though Hasbro's holiday donation program had already reached close to one million children, and had concluded its giving for the year, they searched for available toys to fill the need. A call was placed to Mrs. Dinkins to say 10,000 toys and games were on their way to her.
In addition, Hasbro, Inc., whose corporate headquarters are located in Rhode Island, is issuing a challenge to other companies to help, especially those in the Chicago area. Hassenfeld said, "There are many more children who need our help this year, I'm challenging folks to find their holiday spirit and reach out to those in need. This has been a difficult year for many and the need has increased, therefore, we all have to do a little more."
Hassenfeld added, "At Hasbro, we have seen a huge increase in the number of organizations who need help this year; I'm challenging the residents and businesses, especially those in the Chicago area, to please help this toy drive so that no child goes without on the morning of their holiday."
South Suburban Toys for Tots will be accepting both financial and toy donations through December 22, 2001 at 16710 S. Richmond, Hazel Crest, IL 60429. Any one with questions about the program, please call 708/596-5459.
