Palisades to Make Micronauts

Micronauts

LOS ANGELES, CA January 3, 2002 -- Palisades Marketing recently signed a license agreement with brand licensing firm Global Icons to reintroduce a toy line based on Abrams Gentile Entertainment's original Micronauts. The Micronauts property was a popular series of interchangeable space toys originally produced by the Mego Corporation between 1976 and 1980. In addition, licensee Devil's Due will publish a bi-monthly Micronauts comic book series based on over 50 issues previously published by Marvel Comics.

One of Micronauts' most distinctive play features was its interchangeability, allowing players to attach parts from one figure to another. Micronauts recall images of colorful toys and wild imagination and included such collectible characters as the heroic Acroyear, the powerful Time Traveler, and the evil tyrant Baron Karza. "Micronauts was one of the greatest toy brands of the '70s and '80s," said Ken Abrams, President, Global Icons. "It is sure to be as tremendously popular now as it was back then."

Palisades Marketing will release authentic recreations of the original figures in Spring 2002. For 2003, the figures will be totally updated with new looks and new designs. All figures will be available at specialty and collector shops. "By re-introducing such a great property, we get to experience some of that 80's magic, as well as have the opportunity to develop new interpretations of the characters," said Michael Horn, President, Palisades Marketing.

Devil's Due will publish an ongoing, bi-monthly comic book series based on the figures. The first issue is scheduled for release in June 2002. Artist Michael Golden, who was involved in the original comic book series, is working closely with Devil's Due on the new series. The comic books will be available at comic book specialty shops. "Although there is already a large, built-in fan base for this classic space opera, we hope to attract new fans through updated story lines," said Joshua Blaylock, President, Devil's Due.
