New Edward Scissorhands Goodies

His story will touch you, even though he can't...

DIAMOND SELECT BRINGS EDWARD SCISSORHANDS TO LIFE

TIMONIUM, MD (January 24, 2002) - Diamond Select Toys has signed an agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox L&M) to create new products based on the award-winning film Edward Scissorhands. The three-year deal allows for the design and manufacturing of resin busts, statues, and snow globes featuring characters and scenes from Tim Burton's cult classic. The first product scheduled to be released is a bust of Edward sculpted by David Corts.

"Fox Licensing and Merchandising is thrilled to have Diamond Select on board to design and manufacture new collectible products for Edward Scissorhands," said Peter Byrne, Executive Vice President of Fox Licensing and Merchandising. "With its consistent success in collector and specialty markets, Diamond Select will undoubtedly create products that will fulfill collector and fan demand in the US."

Diamond Select will be the first company to create resin products and snow globes for this 11-year old classic property. Collectible Edward Scissorhands merchandise has been manufactured in the past, but has been limited to action figures, Christmas ornaments, and T-shirts. "We look forward to the opportunity to create original pieces for everyone who loves the film as much as we do. This is a solid property that still maintains a loyal following, and has become an annual holiday viewing tradition in households nationwide," said Jason Whitney, Production Manager for Diamond Select.

Through the agreement, Diamond Select has the rights to sell Edward Scissorhands products to all specialty and hobby stores in the U.S, Canada, Puerto Rico, U.K., and Northern Ireland. Interested distributors and retailers should contact Diamond Select Toys via its website.

In 1990, Director Tim Burton brought his unique model of fairy tale into the 20th Century with Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder in Edward Scissorhands, a brilliant story of a man-made experiment: a monster with long shears for hands. Edward lives in the dark and forbidding castle, overlooking a brightly colored suburb, until the Avon lady comes calling one day. Her motherly instincts tell her to take this poor, lonely creature home to live with her family. There, Edward goes through a series of growing experiences, some of them funny, some of them frightening, while trying to find his place in the world.

Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising, along with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, comprise the retail-oriented strategic alliance of Fox Consumer Products. A recognized industry leader, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising licenses and markets properties worldwide on behalf of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Twentieth Television, and Fox Broadcasting Company, as well as third party lines.

Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles, LLC was founded in 1999 by sister company Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. Envisioned to create unique and exciting collectibles for children and adults alike, the company has licensed a variety of pop culture properties to be turned into merchandise. With partners such as Marvel Enterprises, Linsner.com, Goodtimes Entertainment, Classic Media, and Pioneer Video, Diamond Select produces a large range of products based on a wide variety of properties.
