SAN FRANCISCO -- March 18, 2002 -- Zindart Limited's Corgi Classics operating unit has picked up a three year license to produce miniature icons of Jim Henson's four most popular Muppets, matched with die cast vehicles appropriate to their characters, in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the first season of "The Muppet Show," one of the most watched children's TV programs of all time.
Based on the original tooling from the 1960s, the new Corgi collectibles include Miss Piggy, in a pink convertible; Kermit, in a yellow roadster; Fozzie Bear, in a red vintage pickup; and Animal, in a red and yellow tractor that doubles as a drum set.
The 3.75 in. x 2 in. collectibles, in special 25th Anniversary packaging, will be available nationwide at specialty hobby and other toy retail outlets.
The Henson organization is drawing attention to its 25th Anniversary with a host of promotional activities including appearances of the characters on NBC's "Today" show and "Hollywood Squares," Muppet cars at NASCAR races and Chicago Cubs games, two new Muppet movies and distribution of "The Muppet Show" on VHS and DVD.
