CARLSBAD, Calif., March 22 -- It's official -- LEGOLAND(R) California in Northern San Diego County is one of the best amusement parks in the world. This week both FamilyFun Magazine and Forbes.com chose LEGOLAND California as one of the top family theme parks to visit.
Forbes.com ranked the 128-acre park among "The World's Best Amusement Parks." The travel feature showcases the 13 most popular parks around the globe. LEGOLAND was honored for innovative rides, many of them kid powered, and its wide range of activities geared towards youngsters 2 to 12. The feature can be found at http://www.forbes.com.
In addition, thousands of readers of FamilyFun Magazine, a subsidiary of Disney Publishing, rated LEGOLAND the second best amusement park on the west coast. The 3-year-old Carlsbad park is second only to Disneyland, according to the national magazine's April issue.
"It is a real honor to be recognized by families as one of the top two places for families to vacation," said Bill Haviluk, president of LEGOLAND California. "We are fortunate to have a great park in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. The FamilyFun award, along with the Forbes.com accolade, is a testament to the creativity and excellence LEGOLAND delivers to every guest. It's gratifying to know that focusing on fun, imagination and pulling kids into the action is exactly what families want."
In FamilyFun's fifth annual survey, readers rated America's top vacation spots in a multitude of categories. In addition to having one of the top amusement parks, San Diego County won top honors in two other areas -- Best City and Best Beaches. San Diego was praised for its family appeal, and 70 miles of pristine coastline stretching along more than 33 beaches in the county.
In all, 3,788 FamilyFun subscribers completed the Travel Award survey, which was administered by Davidson-Peterson Associates, a division of Digital Research, Inc. Each family was asked to evaluate roughly 100 destinations in their region of the country.
FamilyFun Magazine is published by Buena Vista Magazines, Inc., a subsidiary of Disney Publishing Worldwide. FamilyFun has a circulation of 1.55 million, and is the country's largest magazine targeting families with children 3-12. The publication is a lively and informative source of ideas for parents and their children, covering family travel, entertainment, education at home and other family activities.
Forbes.com Inc., a leading Internet media company, is among the most trusted resources for the world's business and investment leaders. The site provides commentary, analysis, relevant tools and real-time reporting on business, technology, investing and lifestyle, stocks and mutual fund quotes. It also offers company profiles, a wide array of interactive tools, calculators and databases, including People Tracker, the annual Forbes Lists, a Lifestyle section that currently focuses on high-end vehicles, collecting, real estate and travel, and the complete online editions of Forbes' magazines.
LEGOLAND California is a 128-acre family theme park dedicated to families with children between the ages of 2 and 12. Just like with LEGO toys, kids are the ones who make things happen at the Park. They drive, pedal, squirt, climb, jump, stomp, slide, steer, pull, click, push, gallop, laugh, build and program their way through more than 50 rides and attractions. There are only two other LEGOLAND parks in the world -- LEGOLAND(R) Billund in Denmark, and LEGOLAND(R) Windsor outside of London. A fourth LEGOLAND is under construction near Gunzburg, Germany, and is scheduled to open this spring.
