GLENDALE, Calif., June 10 -- DreamWorks SKG and Hasbro, Inc. announced today that Hasbro will produce a line of G.I. JOE Adventure Team toys in 2003 based on the edge of the seat adventures of the animated feature "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas(TM)," scheduled for release in Summer, 2003. Sinbad will be the latest licensed character to be recruited by Hasbro into the classic G.I. JOE action figure brand.
"Our relationship with Hasbro on the 'Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas' property is truly a great situation for both companies," said Brad Globe, head of DreamWorks consumer products. "Take an event movie like 'Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas' that has merchandisable themes of heroes vs. monsters, and combine that with the market presence of Hasbro's legendary G.I. JOE toy brand and you have a very powerful proposition for retailers and consumers."
"With the 'Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas' property, we have a unique opportunity to marry a breakthrough DreamWorks movie with the unmatched equity of the G.I. JOE brand and the action-packed Adventure Team segment," said Brian Goldner, president of Hasbro's U.S. toy group. "G.I. JOE is a true hero of his time, and his Adventure Team missions over the years have seen him battle many ferocious foes. Our tie-in with DreamWorks and Sinbad provides G.I. JOE with a new adventure of mythical proportions."
In this new animated adventure from DreamWorks, Sinbad, the most daring and notorious rogue ever to sail the seven seas, is joined by the beautiful Marina on his greatest adventure. Together, they must battle Eris, the powerful goddess of Chaos to save the fabled Book of Peace and the life of Sinbad's best friend -- and most dangerous rival -- Proteus.
To support the movie in 2003, Hasbro plans to offer a new line of G.I. JOE Adventure Team featuring Sinbad battling mythological monsters. The 12" action figure line will include Sinbad vs. The Roq, a monstrous bird of prey; Sinbad vs. Serpens, a dragon-like sky serpent; and Sinbad vs. Scorpious, a vicious gigantic scorpion. All three adventures will feature the legendary Kung-Fu Grip, which Hasbro is reintroducing this summer.
