Dog Soldiers: 12" Buffalo Soldier
|
Dog Soldiers announces the release of its third limited-edition 12-inch action figure, depicting a 10th U.S. Cavalry "Buffalo Soldier" First Sergeant of the 1870s.
Black cavalry troopers, most former slaves, triumphed over prejudice and physical hardship to build a legacy of courage and dignity in the American West. Until the early 1890s, the Black 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments constituted 20 percent of all cavalry forces on the American frontier, serving on the Great Plains, along the Rio Grande, in Texas, Kansas, Indian Territory, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and finally in the Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. The black troops earned the name "Buffalo Soldiers" from their Indian opponents and bore it proudly.
Dog Soldiers' new figure is dressed in the uniform and equipped with the weapons and gear issued by the Army in the early 1870s. The set includes an authentic mixture of Civil-War era items and equipment designed for service in the harsh environment of the American Frontier. Suggested retail price is $31.95. The figure is currently available from leading online retailers, including Cotswold Collectibles, Small Blue Planet, Good Stuff to Go and Voyager Toys.
A small toy company based in Alexandria, VA, Dog Soldiers attracted attention last year by releasing figures representing American Indian soldiers of the Northern Cheyenne and Chiricahua Apache nations, both of whom clashed with the Buffalo Soldiers on the frontier. The company has made historical authenticity and attention to detail its trademarks. Dog Soldiers products can be seen on the company's website at www.dogsoldiersfigures.com.
