SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 16 -- As kids scramble back to school, Wild Planet is reminding them to bring along their imaginations and enter the 2002 Kid Inventor Challenge. The annual contest that invites kids to invent their own toys is back and ready to jump-start creativity in kids all across the country.
The Kid Inventor Challenge is Wild Planet's way of engaging kids in the "how-to" process of developing new toys. Equipped with a corresponding curriculum that helps educators and parents guide kids through each step of toy invention, the Kid Inventor Challenge is a hands-on tool for learning, teaching and inventing at home or in school.
And that's not all -- the kids with the top 100 ideas not only receive free toys, but also get personalized Wild Planet gear ranging from business cards to T-shirts. And, the winners will be invited to join the Kid Inventor Team, a group of young consultants that advise Wild Planet's staff of toy designers.
In the past, Wild Planet has worked with Kid Inventor Challenge winners and other young creators to transform their ideas into real toys -- toys that you can find on store shelves everywhere! The latest young inventor to see her toy on shelves in 13-year-old Shannon Crabill. When she was 11, Shannon entered her winning idea, the "Create-Your-Own-Message-Alarm-Clock" that lets users record their own wake-up message. Wild Planet was so thrilled with the invention, that they developed it into Talk Time(TM), this fall's coolest toy. With the royalties and confidence that come with being a toy inventor, Shannon has a head start for the new school year, and for an exciting future.
