Simpsons Creepy Classics at Burger King
|
MIAMI, Oct. 14 -- BURGER KING(R) restaurants are once again the official homes of THE SIMPSONS Halloween festivities this fall when Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa join others from the town of Springfield in a promotion of monstrous proportions. For four weeks beginning October 14, 2002, a series of SIMPSONS CREEPY CLASSICS scary-movie-inspired toys will be available in Big Kids Meals and Kids Meals at participating BURGER KING(R) restaurants nationwide, while supplies last. Also during this period, BURGER KING(R) will be offering a "chilling" Halloween Freaky Float(TM). The program kicks off in time for both the holiday and THE SIMPSONS nail-biting annual special, Treehouse of Horror XIII, which airs November 3, 2002 on FOX.
"Scary as it may seem, Burger King is the only quick service restaurant chain that celebrates Halloween, the second most popular holiday, on such a large scale. We're offering a series of great toys, a Halloween-inspired ice-cream float, new advertising featuring custom animation, activities on our Web site and targeted in-restaurant marketing throughout the promotion," said Rick Dow, senior vice president, marketing programs and sales, Burger King Corporation. "It's 'frightening' how successful last year's in-restaurant Halloween festivities and THE SIMPSONS promotion were, so, we had to bring it all back for another year -- with new toys and a new drink."
The SIMPSONS CREEPY CLASSICS toys each come with a removable figure and a transforming Spooky Screen that plays out THE SIMPSONS-inspired action scenes from popular scary movies. There is one toy per Big Kids Meal and Kids Meal featuring popular SIMPSONS characters from the cartoon including: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Ned Flanders, Dr. Hibbert, Willie, Otto, Professor Frink and Kang.
'Chilling' Freaky Float(TM)
When families come into BURGER KING(R) restaurants to get their favorite SIMPSONS CREEPY CLASSICS toys, they can try the new Freaky Float(TM). Made by combining a BURGER KING(R) old-fashioned vanilla ice-cream shake with Frozen MINUTE MAID(R) Orange drink, the orange-colored Freaky Float(TM) tastes like a chilly orange "creamsicle."
"THE SIMPSONS have become synonymous with Halloween and the BURGER KING(R) SIMPSONS CREEPY CLASSICS promotion could not have come at a better time," said Peter Byrne, executive vice president, Fox Licensing & Merchandising. "BURGER KING(R) is leveraging so many elements to benefit their younger customers: Halloween, an extremely popular kids holiday; a new menu item, THE SIMPSONS Treehouse of Horror special and all-time-favorite classic scary movies."
'Hair-raising' Advertising
While Fox is brewing up a schedule of advertising and promotional plans to raise awareness of THE SIMPSONS Treehouse of Horror annual hit special, Burger King Corporation has a few tricks up its sleeve as well. The mad scientists at Campbell-Mithun, working with THE SIMPSONS creative team, have created an original-animation television commercial featuring THE SIMPSONS and their friends along with the green-tentacled alien, Kang. Additionally, the promotion will be supported by in-restaurant merchandising, an Adventures newsletter, a birthday mailer and a micro-site on burgerking.com with trivia games, pumpkin carving templates, Halloween recipes and information about THE SIMPSONS CREEPY CLASSICS toys.
