PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Oct. 15, 2002 -- Hasbro's FURREAL FRIENDS(TM) electronic cats are hot!

Named earlier this week as one of the toy industry's coveted 'Hot Dozen' by Toy Wishes magazine, FURREAL FRIENDS - from Hasbro's Tiger Electronics brand - is a line of electronic plush cats that convincingly duplicate and mimic the mannerisms of a 'real' cat when stimulated by touch.

"Tiger has a history of hitting home runs during the holiday season, and they're doing it again this year with FURREAL FRIENDS," said Greg Staley, President, Toys "R" Us. "We expect FURREAL FRIENDS to be one of the big hits of the holiday season based on the incredible sell-through we have enjoyed in our first few weeks with the product."

"FURREAL FRIENDS are so realistic and lifelike that it's like having a real cat," said Jim Silver, co-publisher of Toy Wishes Magazine, "but without the litter box."

The success of FURREAL FRIENDS electronic cats extends a long-line of innovation and hit products from Hasbro's Tiger. Over the years, electronic toy offerings from Tiger such as GIGA PETS, FURBY and POO-CHI have enjoyed enormous success following their debuts. As an example, more than 4 million FURBY toys were sold in a three-month time period in 1998 following its October introduction. More than 40 million FURBY toys have been sold worldwide. Both GIGA PETS and POO-CHI toys also enjoyed enormous success out of the gates - with nearly 20 million GIGA PETS and 10 million POO-CHI toys sold on a worldwide basis over time.

"We are thrilled with the early success of FURREAL FRIENDS," said Duncan Billing, general manager for Hasbro's Tiger, Super Soaker and Nerf brands. "Our expertise in interactive technology has once again provided us with an opportunity to deliver great product - in this case, our aim was to create an electronic toy pet that was as realistic as possible.

"Of course, we believe this is just the beginning for FURREAL FRIENDS, as we expect to build a long-term franchise based on the premise of realistic toy pets," said Billing. "Given our track record over the years of identifying and satisfying consumer needs, kids and families can expect lots of fun and innovation from our FURREAL FRIENDS offerings."

Each FURREAL FRIENDS cat has five intelligent sensors located on different parts of its body and three different mood modes: cuddly, playful and irritable. Each sensor is strategically placed to induce a natural interaction between owner and cat.

So, if you scratch the cat's cheek, it will lean into your hand and purr; stroke its fur and it will arch its back. However, if you accidentally step on its tail, look out! Just like a real cat it will become irritable and will hiss until you make 'nice kitty'.

FURREAL FRIENDS cats are for ages six years and up. Available at retailers nationwide. The approximate retail price is $34.99.

Hasbro's Tiger Electronics brand has led the industry in delivering highly innovative, technology-driven entertainment and lifestyle products for the whole family. Some of its most well known products include HIT CLIPS, FURBY and GIGA PETS.

Hasbro (NYSE: HAS) is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its PLAYSKOOL, TONKA, , MILTON BRADLEY, PARKER BROTHERS, TIGER and WIZARDS OF THE COAST brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.
