EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Oct. 22, 2002 -- Mattel, Inc. has renewed an exclusive licensing deal with NASCAR's red-hot rookie driver Ryan Newman to continue creating Hot Wheels® die-cast merchandise.
Mattel has extended Newman's multi-year contract for exclusive mass retail channel distribution of all die-cast vehicles associated with Newman and the #12 Alltel/Penske team. Marketing rights include usage of the #12®, Ryan Newman®, and his likeness, photograph and signature. Newman made his Winston Cup rookie debut this year to much fanfare and is tied for top-5 finishes, and is the leader in top-10 finishes and the NASCAR Rookie of the Year standings.
