Online Toy Safety Quiz

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Nov. 4, 2002 -- Who says learning can't be fun? With that in mind, the Toy Industry Association (TIA)(TM), the trade association of the U.S. toy industry, has created the annual "Toy I.Q. Quiz." Developed around fun and light-hearted questions, the quiz tackles the serious subject of toy safety and common knowledge of how to keep children safe during play. Launching online today at www.toyhotline.org and continuing through December 6th, the quiz features a series of questions that might have grown-ups double-checking their answers.

"Helping to educate parents and caregivers about toy safety is paramount," said Tom Conley, President of the Toy Industry Association. "The toy quiz is an extremely effective - and playful - vehicle for us to provide consumers with important safety information that may be otherwise overlooked."

TIA has restructured the format of the online quiz. Following completion and submission of the quiz, TIA will email the participant a full copy of the quiz with the correct answers. Participants are encouraged to share this valuable information with friends, family and caregivers, as it is integral for supervising children's safe play. Contestants who participate are automatically entered into a random drawing to be held on December 9th, 2002. Prizes include: One First Prize - $200 Shopping Spree to the toy store of the winner's choice; One Second Prize - $100 Shopping Spree to the toy store of the winner's choice; and One Third Prize - $50 Shopping Spree to the toy store of the winner's choice. Winners will be notified during the week of December 9, 2002.

TIA supports the industry's commitment to the production of safe toys, and educating parents and caregivers about safe play. Together with the U.S. government, TIA has led the world in the development of toy safety standards. Its comprehensive website www.toyhotline.org, designed for consumers and the media, provides a broad range of up-to-the-minute information regarding toy safety. Those without Internet access, may request a free toy safety brochure by writing to TIA, 1115 Broadway, Suite 400, NY, NY, 10010, Attn: Fun Play, Safe Play.
