January 31, 2003 (SEATTLE) -- Whirlwind, the second expansion to the award-winning Mage Knight(tm) collectable miniatures game, has officially been retired and will no longer be made available for sale by WizKids. No further Whirlwind figures will be produced, and the last cases have shipped from the WizKids warehouse. All that remains of the Mage Knight: Whirlwind expansion is that which is currently en route to distributors and remains on retailer shelves.
"By introducing special abilities like Ram, Sweep, Magic Retaliation, and by debuting the Shyft faction, Whirlwind has done as much if not more to define the Mage Knight play environment than any set in Mage Knight history," said Martin Stever, executive vice president of sales and marketing for WizKids. "Its release is sure to be remembered as one of the Mage Knight game's formative moments."
The next Mage Knight expansion, Uprising, is slated for an April release. It will feature a contest through which players can win a trip to the WizKids office and work with company founder Jordan Weisman and members of the WizKids Game Design team to create new Mage Knight figures for an upcoming expansion.
