ARLINGTON, TX -- 04/22/2003 -- Fusing the Trading Card Game (TCG) explosion from the world of pop culture with the immensely popular Yu Yu Hakusho™ anime show, Score Entertainment and FUNimation® Productions are once again joining forces to create the next huge gaming phenomenon -- The Yu Yu Hakusho TCG!
In Japan, Yu Yu Hakusho was second only to Dragon Ball Z® in peak ratings and that success has translated just as well into the U.S. market. "In just a few weeks on the Cartoon Network's Toonami timeslot, Yu Yu Hakusho has already surpassed the ratings juggernaut of Dragon Ball Z," Chaz Elliott, Score Entertainment's VP of Creative said. "There is definitely juice behind this IP (intellectual property)!"
Yu-Yu Hakusho is about a band of teenage detectives that investigate troubles in the Spirit World. Their leader is Yuske™ Urameshi, the toughest kid in town. In the opening episode, he quite unexpectedly sacrifices himself to save the life of a small child. Because of his selfless act, he gets a second chance at life to put things right and armed with incredible new powers, he combats the forces of evil along with his friends. It's the classic story of hooligan turned hero, with its own special blend of storytelling, action and comedy.
"Score Entertainment first established themselves as leaders in the game industry with their ground breaking Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game," Bob Brennan, Senior VP of Licensing for FUNimation Productions, said. "The success of that game has placed them in a unique position to tackle Yu-Yu Hakusho with the same kind of enthusiastic energy. We are very excited about the potential!"
The Yu Yu Hakusho TCG is scheduled to make its grand premiere in September of 2003. For the latest details, visit www.YuYuHakushoTCG.com.
