Barbie & Electronic Learning

barbie interactive talking storybook

Tualatin, OR - (May 8, 2003) - Barbie is three times the fun in her third year with Oregon Scientific, Inc., as the company today announced that it is adding all-new products based on the Mattel, Inc. classic Barbie doll license, bringing the total number of items in the Oregon Scientific family of Barbie technology products to a dazzling dozen.

With the introduction of the Barbie B-Book learning laptop, Oregon Scientific's licensing agreement with Mattel, Inc. for the Barbie electronic learning category was born to immediate success. Now, more than three years into technological development, one dozen Oregon Scientific educational, age-level appropriate, sophisticated, inspirational and totally cool Barbie products will be on the market. Oregon Scientific could not B-Smarter than to increase the incredible line-up of learning products for Mattel and the Barbie brand.

Steve Jackson, executive Vice President of Oregon Scientific Electronic Learning Products Division, said, "The ever-expanding activities in the Oregon Scientific Barbie products of memory, spelling, logic, math, and vocabulary give girls a head start when it comes to sharpening skills and gaining self-confidence. With new bilingual activities, talking books and portable learning centers, the new 2003 electronic learning products are loaded with Barbie style and are much more than a fashion statement!"

The new products offered in the Oregon Scientific family of Barbie technology are: a Barbie B-Anything™ Learning Station, an upgrade version of the Barbie B-Book, and a new Barbie audio story reader. All are precisely detailed and embellished with the staple Barbie brand pink color shades, character images, decorations, and feature Barbie's voice for assistance.

Various features of each of the Oregon Scientific Barbie products define the most appropriate product match for several different age ranges, intellectual levels and advanced learning potential. The new products feature different exciting activities, increasing the educational experience to include more activities in language, as well as more activities for children under five.

"Our goal is to target all ages and levels with various combinations of features so that parents and children can find the best product for their individual needs and educational growth," Jackson said.

In the new Oregon Scientific products, Barbie brings learning to life in the completely interactive Barbie™ B-Anything™ Learning Station that can be connected to have Barbie jump from page to the TV screen. A microphone allows music and sing-a-longs with Barbie that can all be stored on a memory cartridge. Activities and games can be played too. A touch of the magic pen adds music, sound effects, and explanations that complement books and different learning activities on cartridges. Activities are available for a range of age groups: Ages 3-6 activities have Alphabet, Counting, Shapes and Colors among other learning fun; and Ages 5-8 add Reading, Language, and Math. Never B-Bored with additional books and cartridges available for even more fun with Barbie.

A freshly upgraded B-Book, the 3rd generation of the original hit electronic learning product from Oregon Scientific, is three times better than ever. It sports a new flashy design for a smart, sophisticated look. New sound technology features voice-over-music without interruption and has the latest technologically advanced high resolution LCD screen. The new product maintains its amazing activities in: spelling, vocabulary, grammar, keyboarding, math, memory, logic, games, music and other cool tools, and now includes Bi-lingual Barbie activities. Ten Spanish activities add a totally new twist. Padrisimo! Super Cool!

In the third new product, Barbie adds a sprinkle of magic to fairytales in an audio storytelling platform. Oregon Scientific offers three classic stories for the new product by featuring Barbie in the starring role for the stories of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Sleeping Beauty. Beautiful Barbie plays the heroine dressed in gorgeous, glamorous costumes in colorful illustrations in the talking storybooks. Reading along with Barbie , she teaches pronunciation and definitions of difficult words, while narrating each story. Sound effects and voice over music make the stories come alive.

"With Barbie doll's help, our interactive products incorporate the personality and friendliness of a best friend for a wonderful value-added feature that encourages the Oregon Scientific philosophy of making learning fun," Jackson said.

Ranging in price from $19.99 through $99.99, the new products join the rest of the Oregon Scientific family of Barbie technology: the Barbie B-Book Desktop, Barbie Ultimate B-Book, Barbie B-Bright Laptop, Barbie Tote N' Teach, Barbie B-Smart and Stylish Compact, Barbie B-Brilliant Pocket PC, Barbie B-On The Go Learning Phone, Barbie B-Book On the Go, and Barbie B-Smart Math N' Secrets Bracelet.
