MIAMI, May 29 -- The vacation exploits of eight of Nickelodeon's most loveable characters will take them from the big screen to BURGER KING(R) restaurants nationwide for four weeks beginning June 2, 2003. As part of an adventurous promotion surrounding the upcoming Nickelodeon Movies/Paramount Pictures family film Rugrats Go Wild(TM), characters including Tommy and Angelica Pickles, Eliza Thornberry and others will take the form of travel-adventure-ready toys in BURGER KING(R) kids meals. Rugrats Go Wild(TM) opens nationwide on June 13, 2003 and features Spike, the movie's canine star, in his first-ever speaking role, voiced by Bruce Willis.
"Rugrats Go Wild(TM) brings together two popular families that are thoroughly enjoyed by our young guests. We are excited to offer these fun collectible toys that can be enjoyed as millions of families take to the open road for their own vacation adventures this summer," said Craig Braasch, vice president, global advertising and promotions, Burger King Corporation.
"Creating a joint promotion with Burger King Corporation surrounding Rugrats Go Wild(TM) is a natural fit for us," said Pam Kaufman, senior vice president of Promotions Marketing, Nickelodeon. "The members of the BURGER KING(R) Kids' Club represent some of the Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys' biggest fans, and we are pleased to work with Burger King Corporation to provide these quality premiums that extend both of our brands."
Smell the Adventure!
Rugrats Go Wild(TM) is the first kids' movie ever to be shown in interactive "Odorama." Each one of the eight toys in a BURGER KING(R) kids meal includes a unique Odorama scratch-and-sniff card that features smells from the movie's adventure sequences -- including flowers, anchovies, root beer and more! -- plus a special bonus -- a fire-grilled BURGER KING(R) burger! During the movie, symbols on the movie screen will indicate when to scratch-and-sniff along with the action, allowing kids to actively take part in the adventure of the film.
Go Wild with Advertising
Burger King Corporation, along with its kid-advertising agency of record, Campbell-Mithun, has created a thrill-filled 30-second commercial featuring the "Travel Adventures To Go" toys and the innovative Odorama cards. In addition, Nickelodeon has created an Odorama commercial, which tells kids all about Odorama, how it works and where to go to get their exclusive Odorama cards -- BURGER KING(R) restaurants!
Burger King Corporation has also created a special Rugrats Go Wild(TM) interactive site at http://www.burgerking.com. Kids can visit to learn about the movie and the toys. This site will accompany extensive in-restaurant merchandising, an Adventures Newsletter and Kids' Club birthday mailers.
