Hasbro Files Patent Infringement Suit Against Mattel
|
Hasbro, Inc. has filed a patent infringement suit against Mattel, Inc. in United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio, Western Division. The suit centers on Mattel's infringement of patents owned by Hasbro for its RICOCHET remote control vehicle. Hasbro seeks damages based on Mattel's selling of toy vehicle products covered by Hasbro's patents, the first of which was issued to Hasbro in March of 1998. A second patent was issued to Hasbro in July of 1999, and a third patent has been allowed and will be issued later this year. Mattel is infringing upon Hasbro's patents through sales of its SUPER REBOUND product, which was introduced in 1999, and its REBOUND toy vehicle, which has been discontinued, but was available at retail after March of 1998. "This infringement suit demonstrates Hasbro's continued commitment to vigorously protecting our intellectual properties, including our patent rights," said Barry Nagler, Hasbro Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Hasbro's RICOCHET, a remote control vehicle with two high torque motors and large balloon tires, was on the market from 1994 through 1996. When it was introduced, it represented a new concept in remote control vehicles and quickly became the top-selling product in the category in the U.S. market. Hasbro is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time and entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its Playskool, Kenner, Tonka, Oddzon, Super Soaker, Milton Bradley, Parker Brothers, Tiger, Hasbro Interactive, Microprose, Galoob and Wizards of the Coast brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.
