TORONTO, Nov. 18 - Earlier today, W.A.T.C.H, an independent consumer protection organization announced its annual "hit" list of toys which it considers dangerous. Spin Master's Air Hogs (R) Sky Commander(TM) Helicopter was present on this list. Spin Master adamantly disagrees with W.A.T.C.H's. nomination of the Air Hogs toy to that list and their assumption that the product poses any danger.
In response to W.A.T.C.H.'s allegation, Spin Master wishes to point out
the following facts:
(1) The Air Hogs (R) Sky Commander(TM) is already being publicly sold and no injuries resulting from playing with this toy have been reported to Spin Master;
(2) The Air Hogs (R) Sky Commander(TM), in addition to rigorous internal quality control and quality assurance testing, has met ASTM (American Standards of Testing and Measurement) standards;
(3) The Air Hogs (R) Sky Commander(TM) Helicopter has passed all safety tests that are run by CPSC (Consumer Protection and Safety Commission) accredited labs; and
(4) The propeller which has been noted by W.A.T.C.H. as being the potentially dangerous part of the toy, utilizes a new proprietary technology wherein the key element is the safety design feature, the subject matter of a pending patent application by Spin Master.
In addition to the safety precautions and safety record noted above, Spin Master has gone to great measures to ensure that the product is used properly. Labeled clearly on package are warnings that instruct users on how to handle the toy and encourage adult supervision of children while flying this toy. The Air Hogs (R) Sky Commander(TM) has also been specifically age graded at ten years and up to ensure a higher degree of maturity in the user.
