Hot Wheels Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Jan. 5, 2004 -- Mattel, Inc. joined with Ferrari today at the North American International Auto Show for the worldwide introduction of the new Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and its Hot Wheels® die-cast counterpart. With meticulous attention to detail, the Hot Wheels® Ferrari 612 was built to capture the authentic Ferrari experience of luxurious form and dynamic high-performance power in a 1:18 scale version.

Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti was designed by Pininfarina and named after Ferrari stylist Sergio Scaglietti. Features of this performance car include an all-aluminum spaceframe structure, a scallop-sided body, a roomy interior, a V-12 engine and 540 horsepower. While the Ferrari 612 will leave auto enthusiasts salivating in its wake until the cars become available, the 1:18 Hot Wheels® version, developed side-by-side with Ferrari, is available beginning this month for an approximate retail price of $20.

"Hot Wheels® and Ferrari share a passion for speed, power and performance," says Michael Staskin, vice president, Hot Wheels® marketing, Mattel. "Working together over the years, Hot Wheels® has been able to precisely replicate some of Ferrari's amazing cars and make their smaller-scale counterparts available to car buffs worldwide."

"This partnership positions Ferrari alongside the premier die-cast manufacturer, ensuring the same high standards of quality and detail found in our high-performance vehicles are applied in the Hot Wheels® miniatures," said Alberto Crippa, Licensing and Merchandising Director, Ferrari. "Hot Wheels® makes our cars accessible to Ferrari lovers of all ages."

Since 1999, Mattel and Ferrari have been committed to an exclusive relationship entitling Mattel to produce toys, accessories and adult collectible products based on the rich heritage of Ferrari vehicles and the extraordinary Ferrari Formula 1 race team.

Mattel has manufactured more than 30 Ferrari licensed models, each specially crafted to ensure maximum authenticity and collectibility while embodying the true Ferrari experience of luxury and performance. Engineers from both companies work side-by-side to ensure their Hot Wheels® counterparts mirror the authenticity of Ferrari's high-performance vehicles, from paint to frame to interior.

Mattel not only captures the exclusivity of these elite vehicles, but also brings the experience to car enthusiasts in the classic Hot Wheels® style that serious collectors have come to expect. Hot Wheels® Ferrari cars are available in 1:64, 1:43 and 1:18 scales. From the Enzo Ferrari to a 1:18 model of world champion Michael Schumacher's Formula 1 racecar, each collectible is a highly-detailed model of the world's most popular Ferrari cars, past and present.
