BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Jan. 16, 2004 -- The LEGO Imagination Center® is gearing up for a full weekend of hockey excitement by participating in the NHL's pre-All-Star FANtasy festivities at the Mall of America this weekend.
Most notably, Brad Brown, defenseman for the Minnesota Wild, will be on-site Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. to help unveil two new interactive constructible play sets from the LEGO NHL Hockey line. Brown also will sign autographs, award All-Star Game and FANtasy tickets, as well as support the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. A huge fan of children, Brown initially will be joined by two youth ambassadors from St. Paul's Children's Hospital, to whom he graciously offered to donate his appearance fee through more than a hundred LEGO sets.
"Hockey Fights Cancer is an important initiative for the NHL and the NHLPA as well as me on a personal level," said Brown. "I'm hopeful the LEGO sets will put smiles on the faces of the children and families who face considerable challenges on a daily basis."
During the course of the weekend, the LEGO Imagination Center will further support the NHL festivities by setting up interactive hockey play tables and offering a 20 percent discount on all LEGO Hockey sets.
Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint charitable initiative between the NHL and National Hockey League Players' Association, which has raised more than $6.5 million for cancer research since its inception in 1998. As part of the initiative, players also are committed to Hockey's All-Star Kids, a partnership with Children's Hospitals in North America, which facilitates interaction between NHL players and young patients afflicted with cancer and other childhood illnesses. Through the program, NHL players spend considerable time visiting Children's Hospitals and fund-raising on their behalf. Players and teams also invite Children's Hospitals patients to take part in the game-night experience by providing them with tickets to games, opportunities to ride on the ice resurfacing machine, and opportunities to serve as stick boy or girl for the night.
