Hunter and Illustrated by Mike DeCamp (click to see larger image)March 1, 2004 - The The SubCultures: the Art of the Action Figure exhibit opened over the weekend. Matt Cauley (Iron-Cow) was on hand for the opening: What is SubCultures, you might ask? This is the brainchild of toy visionary Jessie DeStasio (aka R. Hunter), who developed a gallery exhibit showcasing the overlooked artists, both professional and amateur, whose artistry leads to the production of toys that might not be available on traditional toy shelves, but shine as unique works of art.
This traveling exhibit opened February 27 at the Mark K. Wheeler Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, and will eventually open in Los Angeles, and then move on to open in New York City. I was honored to have my work shown with the likes of Friends With You, Casey Lau, Plan-B Toy's, Mister Ban YJ, Suckadelic, SpaceSpore, Ugly Dolls, Ahn Tran & David Mack, Achy Breaky Toys, Angel Devil Dollsm Evan Dorkin & Sara Dyer, Palisades, Art Asylum, Scary Girl, Tim Biskup, R Hunter, Nakanari, Fafi, SpyMagician and the one and only Bill McMullen. In addition to R. Hunter's images here, please visit these pages to see even more images of the exhibits and the people involved: You can still order the SubCultures Exclusive action figure: Rex Ganon (made by Plan B toys): http://www.millionaireplayboy.com/subcultures/rex.php#toy.
