Magic:TG Fifth Dawn Expansion

May 25, 2004 (Renton, Wash.) - Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., announced today that its new MAGIC: THE GATHERING expansion, FIFTH DAWN will have a worldwide "on sale" date of Friday, June 4. In July, Wizards will launch the FIFTH DAWN expansion for MAGIC: THE GATHERING ONLINE.

The FIFTH DAWN set introduces a slew of cards that combine to give players more firepower to trample their opponent. The 165 card set is one-third artifacts and concludes the MIRRODIN block.

The FIFTH DAWN expansion includes randomly inserted foil-finished premium cards in a limited 165 card set. New game mechanics include:

  • Sunburst This mechanic allows players to play artifacts using as many different mana colors as possible. These artifacts become more effective for each different color of mana used. Card - Sunburst Behemoth.
  • Bringers - A cycle of five goliath crystalline creatures are available with alternative mana cost of WUBRG. These creatures become much more powerful and effective with all mana colors in play. Card - White Crystalline Goliath
  • Scry - Attached to instants and artifacts Scry allows players to view and move the top two cards in their deck a clear advantage to planning their winning strategy.

A richly imaginative storyline, brings the FIFTH DAWN expansion to life. In this set, Glissa, Bosh, and Slobad journey deep within Mirrodin's core to confront the insidious Memnarch. With them is the Kaldra avatar -- an immensely powerful being of energy summoned when Kaldra's sword, shield, and helm were brought together. What was supposed to be the world's salvation turns out to be a vile trick, however. With a single spell, Memnarch seizes the avatar and turns it on Glissa and her companions.

Kaldra's avatar relentlessly pursues Glissa into the Tangle, destroying everything in its way. Finally, at the Radix, Glissa's destiny becomes clear. As rage and despair overcome her, Glissa's body calls forth a great column of green mana from Mirrodin's core, annihilating the avatar in the process. Now that mana hangs overhead in a glowing sphere -- the green sun at last, Mirrodin's fifth dawn.

The FIFTH DAWN expansion is available in 15-card Boosters (MSRP: $3.69), four different 60-card pre-set Theme Decks (MSRP: $11.29), and a Fat Pack, which includes the FIFTH DAWN novel, official FIFTH DAWN Player's Guide, three Boosters and a premium FIFTH DAWN land card and random premium common card (MSRP: $24.99). FIFTH DAWN Deck Boxes (MSRP: $9.99) include two different polypropylene deck boxes with 50 tournament-legal sleeves. (All prices are approximate and are in U.S. currency.)
