EMERYVILLE, Calif., June 16, 2004 -- LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc., a leading developer of technology-based learning products, will introduce a literacy Super Hero with the first Amazing Spider-Man licensed LeapPad(R) system based on the Marvel Super Hero. The LeapPad platform comes with two books, one of which is based on the Amazing Spider-Man comic book and narrated by Spider-Man co-creator, Stan Lee.
In The Amazing Spider-Man LeapPad learning system book, children can follow along as the masked superhero spins webs, clings to walls and gets them turned on to reading with colorful comic-book graphics and action-packed excitement. Spider-Man uses vowel sounds, rhyming, matching and deductive reasoning to fight crime and teach reading comprehension through the voice of the man who first brought the comic to life, Stan Lee.
"For generations, comic books have motivated children to read," said Jeff Cronk, Director of Marketing for the LeapPad learning system. "Bringing kids' favorite comic book characters into the LeapPad system library is a logical step toward encouraging kids to read."
More than 40 years ago, author Stan Lee invented Peter Parker, the quiet teenage nerd with the secret superhero alter ego. Since then, the Amazing Spider-Man has appeared in countless comics, a newspaper serial and a television cartoon.
"Having been involved in the LeapPad system project makes me wish I was young again," said Stan Lee. "I hate to think that I missed out on something as fabulous as LeapPad books."
The LeapPad system is for ages four- to eight-years-old. The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $49.99 for the package, which includes the system and two books; The Amazing Spider-Man and an Interactive LeapPad System Book, a sampler of the LeapPad learning system library. The Amazing Spider-Man book, recommended for ages four- to six-years-old, will also be sold separately at MSRP $14.99.
Beginning June 20, the Amazing Spider-Man LeapPad system will swing exclusively into Toys "R" Us stores and www.toysrus.com. The Spider-Man LeapPad learning system book will also be sold separately at all major retailers.
More than 13 million LeapPad systems have been sold in the United States since 1999. The electronic learning system has won numerous awards and has expanded to include systems for all ages including the LittleTouch(TM) LeapPad system (ages six- to 36- months-old), the My First LeapPad system (ages three- to five-years-old), the LeapPad learning system (ages four- to
