Burbank, Calif. - August 24, 2004 - Rocawear Clothing and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), on behalf of DC Comics, have partnered to create a signature apparel collection that brings together the design perspective of Rocawear with the imagery and myth of Batman(TM), the iconic Caped Crusader from Gotham City. The line, which will hit stores in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures' highly-anticipated, Summer 2005 theatrical release of Batman Begins, incorporates modern street-wear design with logos and graphics inspired by the upcoming film. This type of collaboration is a first for the influential clothing brand.
"Rocawear and Batman are a seamless match," said Damon Dash, CEO, Rocawear. "Batman is a character who is a child of the city, a self-made man who reinvents himself and lets nothing get in his way. We understand what he is all about. Batman is a casual, cool fashion brand and his unique traits fit perfectly into our line. We are looking forward to working with WBCP to add our own flavor to the mix with this exciting new collection."
Dan Romanelli, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Consumer Products said: "Batman is not just a super hero, he is a lifestyle brand that embodies fashion. By partnering with Rocawear, we combine the super heroic style of Batman with Rocawear's street style to create a fashion-forward statement that sets the latest trend in apparel."
The Batman Begins-inspired collection by Rocawear will feature three distinct looks.
The first delivery, titled "Urban Legends," features jackets, wovens, pants and jeans with a distinctly "old school" feel featuring a palette of red, white, navy and gold. Fabrications include jersey, distressed denim from light to dark finishes, brushed tricot and cotton-poly blends.
The second delivery, "Gotham City" leans towards darker hues that incorporate more gray and black with pops of royal blue.
The third delivery, "I Am," is inspired by the look and feel of the industrial landscape portrayed in Batman Begins. Mixing modern and industrial looks, this delivery features jackets, hoodies, tees and button downs and adds iconography, as well as graphics centered on the theme "I Am Batman." Color wise this delivery is much darker with touches of gold and purple.
The Batman Begins infusion by Rocawear is scheduled for deliveries in May, June and July of 2005 and will be sold at better department and specialty stores.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products will display the Batmobile from Batman Begins next to the Rocawear booth at the Magic tradeshow, taking place August 30th - September 2nd in Las Vegas.
Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and The Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham City. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter ego, Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film, which is based on characters created by Bob Kane and published by DC Comics, worldwide in 2005.
