TEMPE, Ariz., August 31, 2004 -- McFarlane Toys is excited to announce the second action figure line from the 20th Century Fox Studio's 2004 summer blockbuster film Alien vs. Predator or AvP for short. The summer movie has become an instant hit. The sci-fi battle "Alien vs. Predator," featuring the creatures of the "Alien" and "Predator" franchises, debuted as the No. 1 weekend movie with $38.25 million, box office take.
The premise of the film is this: Upon discovering a tunnel leading to a massive, ancient underground pyramid, Lex, a female adventurer/ environmentalist, leads a team of explorers on a quest 2,000 feet below the Antarctic surface. The pyramid is a 5,000-year-old training ground for Predators, where they earn their "warrior status" by killing the Aliens, using humans as sacrificial bait. It is here, in the maze of chambers and shifting walls, where Lex partners with a doomed Predator, becoming a "hunter" herself, when her team is caught up in a fierce battle between the Predators and Aliens.
The McFarlane Toys line is slated for release in June and will feature six new figures from the film which can be purchased for around $10 - $12 each. The first line was such a hit, stores have had a difficult time keeping the figures on the shelves.
