Toy Biz is Awarded License For Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that New Line Cinema has awarded the Master Toy License for the upcoming, and extremely highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings trilogy to Toy Biz.According the WSJ, terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources close to the matter claim that New Line was able to command a hefty 14% royalty rate on wholesale revenue. The deal also includes a multi-million dollar upfront "guarantee" payment made to New Line by Toy Biz. The Master Toy License includes action figures, dolls, marbles, plush toys, flying toys, and watches. Of course, RTM will bring you more information as it becomes available. The first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, being directed by Peter Jackson, isn't expected to arrive in theaters until the 2001 holiday season. [Posted 6/09/2000]
