A former Milton Bradley Co. vice president has been sentenced to three years in prison for a kickback scheme that a federal judge said cost the toy company more than $350,000.Arthur Peckham, 58, of Narragansett, R.I., was also placed on three years probation and fined $54,000 at his sentencing Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Michael Ponsor. Peckham and George Serafino, a former maintenance supervisor at the East Longmeadow company, were convicted of money laundering, mail fraud and conspiracy charges by a federal jury in November 1999. Peckham also was convicted of evading $50,774 in federal taxes. From the late 1980s to 1994, Milton Bradley executives took kickbacks from vendors providing maintenance and other services for the East Longmeadow toy company, according to government prosecutors. The vendors were told to inflate their contracts and funnel the extra money to two businesses run by Serafino. Serafino, in turn, funneled the money to Peckham, prosecutors said. Serafino still faces sentencing. [Posted 6/13/2000]
