Dallas: CAPE: Comic & Pop Culture Expo

May 2005 - It's a bird, it's a plane it's CAPE: Comic and Pop Culture Expo! Comic fans unite and walk, drive or fly your way to Zeus Toys and Comics on May 7th, 2005. One of the largest meetings of the comic creative minds converges under a giant big top at Turtle Creek Village for one day only. CAPE, the first annual Comic and Pop-Culture Expo, co-sponsored by Zeus Comics (winner of 4 Dallas Observer Best Of awards and another by D Home), PvPOnline.com and HeroRealm.com bring some of the greatest writers, artist and creators in comics to Dallas.

The event takes place from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, May 7th, 2005, in conjunction with National Free Comic Book Day. Free to the public, CAPE will feature over 45 comic creators, many of who have never attended a local Dallas show. Some of the top names include Robert Kirkman [creator & writer of Image Comics Invincible and Walking Dead, and writer of Marvel Comics Fantastic Four Foes, Marvel Team-Up, and Jubliee], Lea Hernandez [Creator, writer and artist of Rumble Girls, co-creator and artist of Killer Princesses, and artist of the Hardy Boys: Ocean of Osyria], Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa [writer of Marvel Comics MK Fantastic Four and Nightcrawler (of the X-Men). Roberto is an award winning New York playwright. His most recent play "Golden Age" opened in New York's Kraine Theater earlier this month], Scott Kurtz [Creator, writer, & artist of the immensely popular web strip PvPOnline], RK Milholland [Creator, writer, & artist of the popular web strip Something Positive.], Jonathan & Joshua Luna [creators of the Image Comic Ultra and of the upcoming Image Comic Girls] Kazu Kabuishi [Editor and contributor to Image Comic's Flight graphic novel series and creator, writer and artist of Viper Comic's Daisy Kutter], custom toy maker Cason Pilliod (a.k.a. Casimir) of Inanimate Objects and Raving Toy Maniac, and many more talented folks. Fans will get a rare chance to interact with their favorite comic creators, get sketches, talk comics and pick up some free goodies. Fanboy Radio host Scott Hinze will moderate and host the event too!

The all day, indoor/outdoor, big top event promises to be unlike anything the Dallas area has seen before. "We'll have plenty of free comics, movie posters, giveaways, prizes and comic folk in attendance," says Richard Neal, Zeus Comics and Toys owner. "This is a rare chance for fans to hang with some of the best talent in the industry. I can't think of a better way to spend the day."

Two CAPE guests, Scott Kurtz and Kazu Kabuishi are recent nominees for the coveted 2005 Will Eisner Spirit of Excellence awards. Plus writers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Ribert Kirkman write for Marvel Comics Fantastic Four from which this summer's hot movie Fantastic Four is based.

Come out the night before on Friday, May 6th for Zeus' award winning gay and lesbian comic fan mixer with a special happy hour in honor of our special guest Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. (openly gay playwright) at Woody's Sports & Video Bar 4011 Cedar Springs Rd.
