DC Direct seems to avoid this paradigm (for the most part) even though thy're rolling out new lines month after month. Rounding out 2005, we get Elseworlds: Series 1, featuring a mix of top-notch characters from the rich storytelling of Superman: Red Son, and the Batman books Thrillkiller & Crimson Mist. These look great! Inaugurating 2006, we'll then welcome Secret Files: Series 2 - Unmasked!, featuring the biggest heroes in the DC universe, packed with alternate heads and accessories that transform them into their alter egos. Nicely done DC! Both series available for pre-order now!
