Class Action Filed Against Toys R Us

trulogo.jpg - 11482 BytesMilberg Weiss today announced that a class action was filed on July 28, 2000 on behalf of all persons who have visited either www.toysrus.com or www.babiesrus.com and have had their private online Web browsing activities and their confidential information covertly monitored, intercepted and/or transmitted to third parties by Toys R Us.

The complaint charges Toys R Us with invasion of privacy, unfair competition, untrue and misleading advertising, unauthorized use of wrongfully obtained information and fraud and deceit. Plaintiff alleges that Toys R Us has implemented a sophisticated and covert scheme to wrongfully intercept, transmit, record and compile plaintiff's and the Class's personal information. The wrongfully obtained information is so detailed and comprehensive that the recipient of the allegedly diverted information has boasted that it can ``intelligently'' track customer's ``lifetime'' behavior. Plaintiff alleges that Toysrus.com falsely claims it keeps customer's information ``completely confidential,'' that the www.toysrus.com Web site is ``100% safe and secure'' and that Toys R Us does ``not share any personally identifying data about our guests.'' Plaintiff alleges that Toys R Us's blatant misrepresentations are a gross abuse of the trust children and their families have placed in Toys R Us. Plaintiff seeks to remedy Toys R Us's allegedly unlawful actions.
