OAHU, Hawaii -- Dec. 13, 2005 -- To Celebrate Its Hawaiian Heritage Special Edition POG Sets Will Be Distributed Throughout The Islands For A Limited Time Prior To The Nationwide Launch
POG, the original STACK 'EM AND SLAM 'EM game is back! Keeping with tradition, Funrise today returns to Waialua Elementary School, the birthplace of the 90s craze, to formally announce the return of a Hawaiian phenomenon - the game of POG!
The game of flipping milkcaps has been a Hawaiian staple since the early 1930s when the Haeakala Dairy in Maui used the cardboard disks to seal its popular Passion Orange Guava juice. The disks became a treasured collectible for both kids and adults.
The late Blossom Galbiso, a 5th grade school teacher at the Waialua Elementary School in Oahu, used the milkcaps and applied the popular game to her math curriculum in 1991. Little did she know that her inventive lesson plans would start an international craze - POG (an acronym for the juice itself).
Today Funrise, best known for its line of Gazillion Bubbles, will give the students and teachers at Waialua Elementary a sneak peak at the new collectible game pieces. During the press conference this morning Funrise will reveal the official plans for the new POG collections and present the school with a gift in Mrs. Galbiso's memory. Then the gaming will commence!
"We are thrilled to come to Hawaii, where the POG craze began, and tell everyone the exciting news that POG is back," says Arnie Rubin, president of Funrise. "POG is a wonderfully simple and socially interactive game with very strong roots here, and we hope to pass that fun on to the rest of the world."
And the fun isn't just limited to Waialua Elementary School. To commemorate its Hawaiian heritage Funrise will conduct a statewide program celebrating the re-launch of POG. One month before product is on-shelf, Funrise will distribute a limited number of special edition POG foil packs at various locations throughout Hawaii leading up to the holidays. So be on the look-out! The kick off is tomorrow at the Ala Moana Center in Oahu from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Center Court.
POG will be available in January 2006, for children ages 5 and older, at specialty stores across the nation. POG, POG Games and POG accessories will retail for approximately $3.99 - $14.99 each. For more information visit http://www.officialpog.com.
