Toys R Us To Build New Distribution Center

Dallas-based TXI announced that Toys R Us has purchased 93 acres at TXI Railport, a 1,700 acre business and industrial park in Midlothian, Texas. The Paramus, NJ-based toy store retailer will use the land for construction of an 800,000 square foot distribution center. It is expected that this will be the first of two phases of construction for Toys R Us. Brokers for the sale were Karen Simon and Ned Pou of Woodmont Realty Associates.Dan McAuliffe, TXI Vice President of Marketing, Real Estate, said of the sale, "Toys R Us joining Railport confirms for other distributors that the development is strategically located and is a long term cost-effective venue that will provide the community support necessary to operate a successful business." It is expected that Toys R Us will employ 200 people on a full-time basis and 500 seasonally. "Railport is not just about the park; it's about the entire community," McAuliffe continued. Railport, a rail-served business park south of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, is being developed by TXI Real Estate, a division of TXI. Toys R Us is the first distribution center to be located at Railport, with construction expected to begin immediately. Construction by American National Power of a more than $500 million power plant at Railport is nearing completion with two units presently in commercial operation. TXI is the largest producer of cement in Texas and a major producer in California. TXI is additionally the second-largest producer of structural steel beams in North America. The company is also a significant supplier of steel bar, aggregate and concrete products. In addition, TXI is a leading North American recycling company.
