July 6, 2006 - Sherman Oaks, California -- Good news, everyone! Toynami is pleased to announce its acquisition of the action figure license for the Matt Groening's continuously popular animated series Futurama, currently airing on Cartoon Network.
"We've had our eye on Futurama for a long time now, and with the series' current surge in popularity thanks to its rotation on Cartoon Network and its outstanding DVD sales, now seemed like the perfect time to bring Fry, Bender, Leela and company to the action-figure shelves," said Toynami President George Sohn. "And what better way to announce it than with an exclusive figure for Comic-Con!"
Toynami's Futurama action figure exclusive for Comic-Con will be none other than "Universe-1 Bender," the gold-plated alternate-universe version of everyone's favorite larcenous and belligerent robot, as seen in the episode "The Farnsworth Parabox." Toynami's other 2006 Comic-Con exclusives include the Macross Hikaru's VF-1S 1/100 Scale Transformable Action Figure, the Naruto "Nine Tailed Fox" Resin Diorama Statue, and the Precious Miseries "Stitches" Ragdoll.
The company plans several assortments of Futurama action figures for release throughout 2007.
